Your Sexual Past Can’t Trump God’s Plan For You Because A Triumphant God Trumps All!

Psalm 41:11 "By this I know that Thou favorest me: because mine enemy doth not triumph over me."

Psalm 41 was written by David during a time that he felt overwhelmed by what his enemies were doing to him and plotting. It is considered a doxology because it is the last Psalm in the first of 5 divisions within the Book of Psalms.

Trump (Noun) In card games, it is any playing card of a suit that for the time outranks other suits, such a card being able to take any card of another suit.

(Verb) It also means to excel, surpass or outdo.

Triumph (Noun) It’s the act, fact, or condition of being victorious or highly successful. (Verb) It means to gain a victory, be highly successful, or conquer.

I’m not an expert in card games with the cards used for things like solitaire, gin rummy, spades, bridge, pinochle, poker, etc. It’s been dozens of years since I made the decision to stay away from those types of cards. I made the decision to stay away from them because the original purpose they were created for was demonic in nature. Sometimes they are still used inappropriately.

But sometimes on television and movies, I see people playing those games. In one game in particular that is called pinochle, there are certain cards that act as a trump.

Review trump definition.

Well sometimes in our day to day walk, we try to trump God in our actions or we face people coming against us trying to trump God.

But how many of y’all know that according to Isaiah 54:17, no weapon formed against us shall prosper?

Many of these situations often parallel stories in the Bible. We won’t have time to turn to all of these stories. I will try to at least highlight which Bible book I am referencing for you to note and read at your leisure.

David is the writer of our text, and stories about his life are in the Old Testament in 1&2 Samuel. God anointed him to be king. He also was used by God in many other ways. But along the way, it seemed like many times the naysayers, his enemies and his own sins would trump God’s plans. But none of that could. His family didn’t see or believe what God put in him. He committed adultery and murder after God anointed him to be king. He was often on the run from those wanting to kill him. But none of that could trump God’s plans. Nobody could triumph over David.

Think about Caleb and Joshua in the Book of Numbers. They went with 10 others to spy out the Promised Land that God said He would give. They saw obstacles that looked like giants. But those obstacles didn’t trump God. Many didn’t believe that. But those who believed went in and possessed the Promise.

God has made some promises to each of us. Some things promised to us are in the Word. Some of us have been shown specific things promised to us through dreams, visions, etc. So when the enemy comes in like a flood, and temporarily inhabits what God said you will possess, remember that they can’t trump God. What God has for you is for you. That applies to spouse, children, ministry, job, home, etc.

It doesn’t matter if you or your mate had sex and even children with someone else in the past, and formed soulties, or if someone is stuck co-parenting with an ex. Yes, you will need to work through all of that. And some salvation and deliverance may be needed. But it won’t trump God’s plan.

In the Book of Genesis, God gave Abraham and Sarah a promise. They tried to speed God up and make it happen their way and in their time. The promise was Isaac. They got Ishmael first. Problems happened. But that didn’t trump God. Their old age didn’t trump God. Their sins and mistakes when they "put the cart before the horse" didn’t trump God. Our sins won’t trump God either. I don’t care what you have done. Even if you have been in sexual sins, and did things in the wrong order, and were with someone you had no business being with. If you have been forgiven and delivered, don’t let the devil tell you God won’t or can’t bless you. Don’t let the devil tell you he won and got you away from your blessing or cancelled it out. Who are we or the devil to think we have any kind of power to stop God? The devil is a liar!!! And a defeated foe!!!

In the beginning of the New Testament, especially in the Gospel According To Luke, God tells us about 2 miracle births. Jesus, our Lord and Savior was born. Mary birthed him before having intercourse with her husband Joseph. She was a virgin, and hadn’t slept with anyone when Jesus was conceived. Yet God ordained for her to give birth to His only begotten Son. Virginity didn’t trump God’s plan to impregnate her.

Around the same time, an elderly couple related to Mary were also promised a son. They were Elisabeth and Zacharias. The son was John the Baptist, a forerunner of Christ. His parents had been having fertility issues, yet God promised them a son. Their old age and infertility didn’t trump God’s plan.

Now I’m going to come back to the infertility issue, because that ties into some other sexual issues I’m going to go into.

Sometimes the devil will try to use our mouths and our doubts to trump God. But even if God has to shut us up, He won’t let our words or doubts trump Him. In Luke, Zacharias spoke doubts regarding the promise. So God shut him up real good. He became mute. He couldn’t speak until after his son was born, and he was ready to speak what God told him.

I believe God still does this in a way today, even though in a more subtle manner. Sometimes we go through situations where the devil gets busy and circumstances and situations make it look like God isn’t going to do what He promised to do. Even if our spirits still know God is in control, the mind can forget at times. We want to start talking about what we see, and what the devil is doing, and how the promise doesn’t appear to be possible. Our inclination is to get on the phone, the Internet, Facebook, or around the table with folks, and speak about what the devil did, and our doubts, and all kinds of negative words about the situation.

And guess what, God has a way to shut our mouths like He did with Zacharias. But this is how He does it. When we try to get on the phone speaking all that doubt or get in the car to go see someone to speak the words of doubt, God blocks it. He will have the other person, not answer the phone, not be home, etc. Or something will stop the text from going through. I’ve seen Him do it with me. At those times when I wanted to get on the phone and speak doubt, God wouldn’t allow anyone to be available or willing to talk.

God is awesome. He knows just what to do, when to do it, and how.

Now I’ve talked about how people can’t trump God even through deliberate choices or negative speech. But what about our enemies? I mentioned the devil who we call "the enemy." But now I’m talking about those enemies who are people we deal with.

Let’s read the text again. Psalm 41:11

People get jealous, bitter, and whatnot. They try to destroy us, block our blessings, and take what is ours. But they can’t triumph over us. People lie on us, scandalize our names, misjudge us, etc. It even happened to Jesus, and He is God.

Often times when people have sexual sin in their pasts or even their presents, they get labeled, and called names, and judged by their enemies. People hate on folks who have been kept or delivered. And some times those haters and judgmental folks are sitting right up in church in the pulpit, the choir loft, the deacon bench, the mothers' bench, etc.

But enemies can’t triumph over God’s people. We are more than conquerors. The weapons formed against us won’t prosper. They can’t trump God. God has promotion and elevation in store for you and for me.

People want to keep us down, and see us stay down, and not delivered. But God won’t be trumped.

Someone may be thinking about their criminal record or other sinful mistakes and think that they can’t get blessed with a spouse, good job, or ministry position, or opportunity at a college education. But if God has something for you, your past can’t trump God.

Some people have been promised children by God, but their past related to sexual sins has trumped their fertililty. Yes, abortions and numerous STD’s can be rough on the body and reproductive organs. But if God has promised to give you or anyone children after that, those physical "scars" can’t trump God’s promise.

When the devil reminds you of your past, you remind him of his future. The last time I checked, that future involves the lake of fire.

Some people have been waiting a long time for a spouse, and the devil and folk try to say certain things make them unmarriageable. People who were wild and slept around get told nobody wants someone with a promiscuous past, and will label them with some of those not so nice words. Then the ones who stayed pure, and want to keep their virginity before marriage get called other names and told nobody wants someone inexperienced. Haters say the wedding night will be a disaster while they "fumble around in the dark" due to lack of experience. But the beauty that God created in the act of marital intercourse trumps all that.

That stuff can’t change God’s plans for marriages that have been ordained in the heavenly realm. Promiscuity can’t trump God. And virginity can’t trump God either. What God has for you is for you. That goes for all of us.

Sometimes people in positions of authority get on these power trips and try to trump God. They try to make people follow their sinful advise, rules, or orders. They try to say they are to be followed and put themselves over God. When people start power tripping like that, it makes make want to ask what parents used to ask smart mouthed defiant children back in the day. My mom would ask, "Who do you think you are?"

In Acts 4 and 5, Peter and his co-laborers were faced with situations where people tried to stop them from obeying God. They made it clear that they had to obey God rather than man, when the authority was going against what God said.

So the Bible teaches us that the demands and rule of authority can’t trump God. Sinful authority can’t triumph over us. We learned that about Pharoah in the Book of Exodus.

If someone is forcing you to commit sexual sin, such as being in the sex industry, those pimps and traffickers have no authority over you. Pray for God to give and show you a way out. God has better for people and their body temples than to be somebody’s sex slave, porn star, centerfold, or stripper. The bosses may tell you that that is all you are good for. But what God says about you trumps all of that.

Saints I also want to let you know that truth trumps the facts.

The facts may say you are sick. Truth says by His stripes you are healed.

The facts may say you are not qualified or good enough or young enough. Truth says you can do all things through Christ. The facts may say what the devil and folk say and are doing. Truth says what God promised you in His word in dreams and visions, and though the vision tarries to wait on it because it will speak and not lie.

All that is Bible y’all. God’s Word is truth. The truth will set you free.

Now I want to close with this. In card games, a trump card supercedes a card with a king. But I praise God that nothing can trump our king. Jesus Christ is the King. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords!!!

When you have Jesus in your life and in your heart, nothing can trump God’s will and plan for your life. I don’t care what it looks like.

Sometimes it seems like folk and the devil are winning. But the more God’s people get oppressed, the stronger in Him we get. Just like in Exodus when the Egyptians oppressed the Israelites.

When you are on God’s side you are dangerous to the devil and his kingdom. He wants you to see yourself as defeated. He wants you to feel like your rump has been bumped by his trump.

But we serve a triumphant God. He trumps everyone and everything.

I encourage you to get to know Jesus and give your life to Him if you haven’t so you can be triumphant, and experience Him being the Trump in your life. Salvation, deliverance and forgiveness will trump all the mess of your past and present.

And if you already know Jesus, be encouraged. He is triumphant. Nothing and noone can ever trump Him.

Hold to God’s unchanging hand. God Bless You
