God gave me a word to post on social media this week. It is not about sex, purity, or virginity. But it has to do with how we value ourselves as women.

I don't know if any of y'all ever hear the term "wife beater" used for a certain type of tank top undershirt men wear. It became a common word used for that type of shirt because in many movies and TV shows the stereotypical attire for abusive men was often to have one of those white tank top undershirts on.

Anyway for awhile I actually started calling them that after hearing family members use the term.

God has been convicting me about that.

Being a woman, and having a number people close to me who are victims of domestic violence and having myself experienced violence from males (although they were not my husband or boyfriend), I have come to realize how insensitive that term is to women, especially victims.

So females should not use it. Neither should males.

For any brothers who happen to be reading this, please be mindful of 1 Peter 3:7. It teaches men to give honor to their wives as the weaker vessel. This can also be used as a scripture to show how women in general should be treated.

I know there this is a website primarily for females. I am copying and pasting this onto several sites. Some of those have male readers. If you feel led to copy and paste this into something males read, or to show it to a male, the above part will be appropriate.

I'm going to be obedient to the Spirit and stop calling the shirts "wife beaters." I encourage y'all to do likewise. Wearing the shirts is okay, But call them what they are..."white tank top undershirts."
